Changing Places Facility: Ebrington Barracks

The Ebrington Barracks, Changing Places facility opened in July 2017 to the public to help encourage people and families with disabilities to visit Derry City Centre for day trips. The facility was developed and funded fully by Glen Caring and we are proud to announce it is the first one in the Western Region.

This luxury, top of the range facility is designed to an extremely high standard whilst being easy to use for both carers and the disabled person. All workspace equipment can be folded to maximise working space for the users such as changing bench and support rails.

Throughout the project, Sync Living provided specialist advice to both the contractor and architect to ensure the correct equipment was not only included but was located in the correct position to meet the needs of the end user. The combination of space, correct equipment and its position is key to the success of a Changing Places facility.

“From our experience of taking clients on respite care day trips, standard disabled toilets are simply not enough for those with severe mobility issues,” says Glen Caring general manager Linda Beckett. “This new facility enables them and their carers to enjoy trips to and days out in Derry and the surrounding areas, with the security of knowing that their needs can be met with dignity.”
