Shopmobility Belfast is a charity that can provide free wheelchair hire and free mobility scooter hire on Monday to Friday, between 10am and 4pm. They are there to help people get around the shops and sights of the greater Belfast area, to bring inclusivity and enjoyment.

The service is open to everyone who finds access to the city centre and surrounding areas difficult. This includes people with disabilities, older people or those who, due to accident or illness, find themselves with temporary mobility difficulties. You do not have to be registered disabled to use the service.

At the moment they have over 4,000 members and numerous locations throughout Belfast.

Shopmobility can provide a meet and greet service – if you arrive in town and would like to be met at the bus stop or train station, a volunteer can meet you with a scooter.

Shopmobility also have a number of outreach locations; including Titanic Belfast, Ormeau Park, Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, Lurgan Park and more. You must be a member to use these locations.

They have a large range of equipment, including mobility scooters, wheelchairs, and sports equipment.

How to hire wheelchairs and mobility scooters in Belfast for free with Shopmobility

To hire free mobility equipment, you must simply become a member of Shopmobility Belfast, which is also free of charge. To do this, bring the following items to any of Shopmobility’s indoor locations.

• 2x Passport photos
• 1x Proof of address
• 1x Photographic ID

A volunteer will carry out an assessment and you will be shown how to operate the powered scooters or wheelchairs. You will then be issued with a membership card that you can use in all Shopmobility Belfast Indoor and Outreach Locations. Once you are a member – you’re good to go!

PLEASE NOTE: If you have a condition that may effect your ability to control mobility equipment e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, blackouts etc, then please contact their main office before applying for membership. It is important that you are able to fully control Shopmobility Belfast’s equipment for health & safety and insurance reasons.

It is FREE to join Shopmobility Belfast, and free to use equipment between the hours of 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
